In the Pine

This is my new mountain lion painting. Sometimes when I paint I like to imagine myself in different circumstances. For instance what if I was climbing up into a pine tree in a forest with very little light coming through the branches and I came face to face with this awesome predator. I imagined a mountain lion in the shadows stalking from up in the trees while I painted this so I could get the emotion and feel of the cat. Painting light rays always adds to the drama and the direction I want to lead the viewers eyes. It also sets the cat back into the painting when I paint light rays over his body. Bringing that branch into the fore front of the painting and across the cats body also sets it back and adds to the effect.
