Mountain Sun Set

18" x 24" oil on canvas that's waiting for a new home. This one is called Mountain Sun Set. I wanted to show the sun set burning through the mountain pine trees. This painting is all about contrast and colors. I wanted the foreground trees to be a silhouette against the light back ground. This is one of those paintings that is very simple but extremely effective. You do have to know the correct techniques to pull it off though. I painted the foreground trees in first and then painted the negative shapes of the background in around the trees. That's what gives it that burning or glowing effect that shines through and overtakes what's in front.
